History DOES Repeat Itself

Postby Louisville Lanning » Wed Feb 18, 2015 4:40 pm

Back in the mid 60's Ted Trevor and his friend Don Wilcox had a virtual lock on west coast slalom racing. Ted's two Corvair powered Meyers Manx dune buggies were able to win FTD in most events entered for almost two years. Carroll Shelby became so frustrated at the time with Ted's and Don's success that he withdrew his factory Cobras from competition.

Fifty years later nothing has changed much. In April 2014, Mike Levine entered his Crown Conversion in "The Walter Mitty Historic Races' at Road Atlanta. The race in question is called the International American Challenge. Fifty plus cars from the U.S., Europe and Japan competed with awards going to the top 3 American drivers and the top 3 foreign entries. Mike Levine finished 3rd among the American drivers and 8th overall. And yes, there was a Shelby Cobra in the race and this time a Crown car beat it. This is both a tribute to Ted Trevor and to Mike Levine who has been able to take what Ted created and build it into an extremely competitive race car 50 years later. Here's a picture of Mike beating the Cobra in that race and him standing on the podium to receive his award. Mike Levine, you do us proud.
