I have made the upgrade to an LS 6.0 aluminum motor for more power and a wider power range. The other significant change was reworking a New Process overdrive 4 speed to replace the GM Saginaw transmission. The mainshaft required re-machining, and a rear flange was added to bolt to the differential case. Shift linkage used cables and bell cranks to attach to the shifting levers on the transmission side cover. This transmission and a 3.27 final drive reduced highway RPM to about 2400.
This configuration made the car much quieter with a cooler driver’s compartment and better fuel mileage. The LS New Process combo required a new cross member below the bellhousing and the original horseshoe cross member was removed.
Overall, this configuration made a V-8 conversion not only fast, but more pleasant for short or long drives.
