Comment on cooling lines for water pumpers

Postby Rick Andersen » Fri Sep 25, 2015 10:52 am

I was following a number of build threads, and I see that a lot of
people run cooling lines to the radiator and back from the radiator
right next to each other.
If you do that, you should really space them apart, or maybe even
insulate then from each other.

Otherwise, what you have is a counterflow heat exchanger, which will
cool the water going to the radiator by heating the water coming back
from the radiator.

A big deal? Not sure, but better to avoid the question altogether.

For what it's worth . . .

Thanks, Rick;
I'd posted that on the fastvair forum.
It did prompt a lively discussion.

In summary - as long as there is some space between the pipes, there shouldn't be a problem.
But they should see a lot more of the "great outside" than they should see of each other.

The pipes especially shouldn't be firmly touching each other for any substantial distance.
I've not seen any mention of it, but the pipes should also be supported so they can't rub or fret against anything.
Yes, of course that's obvious. But sometimes we overlook the obvious- certainly I sometimes do.
