Transmission coolers

For those running automatics - of course it is possible to hang a cooler with its own fan somewhere, but I am considering other possibilities.
In the dark distant past, one of the cars I scrapped had a transmission cooler that was connected in series with the lower radiator hose.
So, it was a oil-to-water heat exchanger perfectly configured for oddball applications like ours. Unfortunately I have no idea what it came from, and it would be a very obsolete application anyhow.

However - has anyone seen a modern application of that?
VW/Audi does something like that, but the cooler seals by o-rings to something - I'd rather something that just connects with hoses.

Thoughts?

Ok, I looked a bit harder on the 'net.

They are commercially available - but the aftermarket stuff isn't cheap.

Hmm - There are coolers that go between the engine and the motor oil filter. Something like that with a remote filter mount might - be a complete kludge. Nevermind.
Well, food for thought, anyway.
