Front radiator and fan shroud.

My Crown has the normal front verticle installed radiator work performed with only the lower valance cutout for the cooling air inlet. It has the typical Crown top of the wheel wells cut out for heat evacuation. Originally only the inlet to the brass four core radiator was sealed up with shrouds/air guides and nothing else on the rear of the radiator but two electric puller fans. Now I personally never had a cooling issue while moving with thermostat outlet temp of 185-190* with a load and not moving might hit 200-205* max. I did have an issue of heat soak and not getting the temps to come back down at a reasonable time once temps hit 210+* while not moving. So I blame the all the heat soaking on the lack of a shroud on the back of the radiator covering the fans making them struggle to pull in cool air while not moving. So I cut the button of the trunk floor out in front of the fuel tank and fabbed up a quick fiberglass radiator shroud to help the fans pull air in and direct the flow down instead of out the wheel wells. Probably not great to have more air under the car than it already is pulling but I'm not going out the hood with the hot air.

Good info , Adam. I would love to see your air intake and discharge pic’s , I am working a a simalar project. Also what is your fan cfm ?

Thanks Doug.
No idea on fan cfm they are older units though. I'll get pictures up tonight.

This is the setup on the car when I got it except I cut the trunk floor out.

No spring cleaning yet and I got a cool shot of the intake and bugs.

This is the quick three layer fiberglass shroud I made,
I have not installed the foam rubber seal on it yet to mate with radiator

Great pic’s , thanks for the share, from the looks of the install (yours?) it was done right . How is your air flow from the front opening , from the pic I really couldn’t tell size wise , the cutout .The shrouding looks good tho.How well does it cool ?

Doug I bought this Crown car already built but I have had to rebuild everything. I have made no runs yet with this shroud on in 2018, I've not had any cooling problems in the past moving but would get a heat soak that was hard to get back under control in a timely manner while sitting.
I don't have any super close up pictures of the air inlet.

I just ran across the latest pictures of my radiator and such
After cutting out the entire floor area, I added a brace for my fuel cell mount

Image

once I got the fuel cell sitting in place, I built the radiator support bracket and got it bolted in place

Image

overhead shot to show how it all fits together

Image

This is a Jegs unit over a late 60 big block radiator..........

Image

I'm using one of the variable speed fan controllers..........comes on low and build up and then gradually slows down

I know I have some finished pictures but I am just not sure where

I thought I would throw out there what I have done so far... first off, the car has yet to be driven, but I built the cooling system using an AFCO dual-pass aluminum radiator approx 27" x 19" with a 2100 cfm fan and a full shroud. I am running an electric Deadenbear water pump to provide a little bit more interior space. I am not running an expansion tank, and not certain if I need one. I have bleeders in the top of the thermostat housing, there is one on the pump, and I plan to add another where the pipes come through the firewall.
I am open to all comments and suggestions regarding this setup...

Mr Goodman, I think you have done a great job with your fan and shroud. Based on my experience ( which is very limited ), I'm not sure about the extra pumps to move the water. The standard water pump works well in mine. As a matter of fact, I seem to be having a problem getting the car to the warmed up stage............wants to hover around 140 degrees.

This is the finished shot of how m y unit went together. There is very little escape for the air coming in the front. I covered the entire unit with amour flex foam. The only things left is to get rid of the amplifier wiring and finish up the vent tube. I did get rid of the hood latch and went to hood pins instead

John I wonder if you are using a thermostat ?
