shifter seal replacement on 4 speed

I had a difficult time trying to pry the old seal out. I took a short 1/2" black iron pipe nipple and cut to 1 3/8" length. I ground two flats on it so i could turn with a 3/4" open end wrench i tapped it in and it kept threading it in. It will push the seal out of the housing.
