Porsche Transaxle Questions

Porsche Transaxle Questions

Postby Kent Meyers » Thu Oct 29, 2015 11:41 am

I am a new member to the V-8 registry. While I have a convertible late model with a V8 in the stock location, I am very interested in installing a porsche six speed transmission as my current transaxle (Corvair 4-speed) has given up and the car is sitting for now.

I am most interested in challenges concerning finding the right conversion parts, mounting tips and just about anything else I can learn about this conversion.

First step is call Kennedy Engineered Products (KEP) and ask if they have an adaptor plate that will work.

I'm sure they do and after that it will be a total scratch fabrication to install that combo in a Corvair.

This used 997 six speed is "only" $7K on e-bay right now...looks like a solenoid actuated shifter.

Jim,

Thanks for the reply!

Wow, $7K for a tranny, quite a bit more then I want to part with right now.

Another source of info: California Motor Sports, visited with a gent that recommended a Boxster six speed which is a lot more affordable it looks like. They also do all adapters, clutch mods, I think the dirve shaft mods etc. Sounds like they could also help with gettng the shifter set up as well.

Anyone out there running this unit or anything close?

thanks,

Kent
