Rear gear ratio.

Rear gear ratio talk.
It's been said the 3.55 is weaker with less material vs running a 3.27 gear.
It's a street car that see's the occasional 1/8mi drag blast.
Close ratio Saginaw trans,
My solid lifter Chevy 302 is very soft down low I'll say a bit more low end torque than a hot Corvair 140, so it struggles a bit as the power is condensed at 4000 to 7000 rpm.
Being that the car is still light weight I think it may not matter much dropping from 3.55:1 gear to a 3.27:1 but my little v8 lacks the torque of a 327/350ci+ engine to properly leave from a stop.
I need to replace the busted 3.55 ring gear in the case right now hence the question.

check out some of older posts ,, here is one :

when Ted Trevor came up with CorV8 it was a stroke of genius ,, mid engine cars were few even in race cars ,, a simple swap using mostly corvair parts ,, an in-expensive midengine car ,, but the weak link has always been the diff,,, your drag racing sounds like fun but hard on that diff ,, also I love the 302 ,, sounds like high revving fun ,, but if you like a mid engine corvair the transaxle is key to building one ,, either live with limitations of small R&P or step up to some thing stronger ,, lot of people going to C5 differential ,, again look at other posts ,, but will cost more than staying with corvair ,, good luck ,, and how did you fit 295 section on rear and 245 up front ??

I do not drag race this car and I've broken enough things just keeping the maintenance up while enjoying this car.
The big rubber on the corners is hurting things much worse than the torqueless engine.
Mike Levine gave me the best info I was looking for about the ratio swap as well as stating that this close ratio trans is a limiting factor.
My typo of front tire section width, they are 265/50 rear are 295/50. They just barely fit, front wheel arch pinch weld is trimmed and the rear has wider flares in the body.
