Corvair Saginaw strength ?

Corvair Saginaw strength ?

Postby Randolph Galek » Wed Jul 18, 2018 5:19 pm

My LS Corvair currently has a standard ratio trans and 3.55 rear.
It is really quick but I miss the gearing of my old close ratio trans.

I have a close ratio trans available but i’m wondering if it would survive with the higher torque of the LS motor and today’s stickier tires.

Any thoughts or suggestions on mods that could be done to make it reliable?

The current Corvair Cidco diff seems to be in good shape. Ultimately I’ll go the C5 diff and maybe the Powerglide setup but I’m having too much fun now to do a major redesign.

Thanks
Chet

Abuse and rpm higher than 7600 is what will hurt the Saginaw trans. A great quality gear oil helps a lot in trans life.
