I would like to obtain a set of original Crown headers

Mine seem to be beyond repair, rust, etc.

Any ideas.

I have several sets of original Crown headers available.

What is a suitable price for excellent used or NOS?

I'd actually rather trade for other parts vs selling.

Thanks
Chet

I bought a set of headers from a member here last year.

Excellent deal, good price, excellent condition, etc.

I tried to mount them and one of the tubes hits the frame member

so now I need to look for another set

Any takers. :D

Bob,

I assume you are talking about interference between the header collector and the "horsecollar" that sits perpendicular to the axis of the car and circles the upper area around bellhousing. I had interference in that area and solved it by removing the horsecollar, heating it up with a torch and beating the upper side in the area of interference with a sledge hammer until I was happy with the fit. Originally they were metal to metal. I now have something approaching one inch of clearance. I have attached a few photos for reference. If that's not the area of interference than they may not be actual Crown headers.

Rick

No, that's not the area, Let me take some pictures and maybe that will clarify the issue

The rearmost tube has a big bow in it, and it lays on the sub frame, stopping me from mounting

Bob take a look at this other thread here where Rick posted a picture of his header on right side and you can see how different Crown is from what you have , altho his subframe is different

Bob , I wonder if you are building a "correct" Crown car ,, Registry does have an award for most original and certainly Crown V8 cars are a part of Corvair history .. if NO then just cutoff the offending tube and weld in a new one , but if you are going for "original" then that will take a little work and money ,, headers are a wear item and its not likely there are many original sets around ,, good luck to you if that is your quest ,, Mike Levine may have a set or can get a set built ,, he is a current registry member for 2018 (I just checked) and his contact info is in member only area ,, he was talking about getting them reproduced ,, another thought that MIGHT work would be to call CLARKS .. they have discontinued but they might steer you to whoever their supplier was ,, that is ,, if they weren't just selling off NOS stock ..Mike might be best start ,, custom builders are around but a one off set will be spendy ,, good luck
